Values at Windmill

These core values underpin our vision and everything we do at Windmill L.E.A.D. Academy. They help guide us to lead more meaningful lives through the choices we make and influence our attitudes and behaviours. Furthermore, we want these values to be the key characteristics of our learners.

Values-based education

We launched our values-based education to help facilitate the development of citizenship so that children will grow up to be responsible members of the community who operate with integrity. Values-based education is an approach to teaching and learning that underpins the way the school develops relationships and promotes positive human values.

What is a value?

A value is a principle which guides our thinking and behaviour. We can never be value free so the process of self-evaluation is crucial if we are to appreciate the effect that our values have on the life of the school.

What is values-based education?

It helps the school community think about and reflect upon positive universal values and the practical implications of expressing them in relation to themselves, others, the community and the world.
It inspires individuals to choose their own positive personal, social, moral and spiritual values and be aware of ways for developing and deepening them as world citizens.
It promotes an inclusive school ethos and methods of working that raises achievement and helps pupils to raise their self-esteem and take greater responsibility for their own behaviour and learning.
Overall, it will enable pupils to examine the kind of life that is worth living and to consider what kind of life they want for themselves.

How will values-based education be implemented?

Values will be introduced in assembly so children can become familiar with the language and idea. The value will be a core theme running through the assembly programme each month.
The value of the month will be explored and referred to during class discussion time.
The value of the month will be shared with parents.

Vision

Through high expectations, we endeavour to instil in our learners a positive attitude that feeds a passion for life-long learning, a respect for self, others, diversity and the environment. We will deliver an inclusive curriculum that inspires, nurtures and develops the talents of all our learners. By establishing a welcoming, safe and innovative community, that empowers learners to think and work creatively, collaboratively and autonomously, Windmill L.E.A.D. Academy will support children to become successful, responsible citizens, who are curious to learn and adapt in an ever-changing world.

We want children to develop resilience and independence in all academic and social domains that can be transferred to the wider world in a respectful way. Windmill learners will be leaders of their own learning; kind, ambitious and confident builders of their futures. They will be critical thinkers who are reflective, which will enable them to have the courage to live independently and enrich their lives and the lives of others around them.

Mission Statement

Windmill L.E.A.D. Academy exists to create a community of learners that have respect and integrity at the core of their being.

At Windmill, we envisage that children will be:

In order to facilitate this, we ensure all children have a curriculum that:

A unique, broad thematic curriculum approach that facilitates exploration beyond the classroom and connects learning between subjects;
A curriculum that is well sequenced which builds knowledge and cultural capital based on prior learning;
A curriculum that gives the opportunity to embed English, mathematical, computing and technological skills across subjects;
A curriculum that builds survival skills to enable children to navigate the world of work and have economic well-being;
A curriculum that builds an awareness of the wider world;
Particular opportunities to explore and learn about the environment, aspirations, health and diversity;
A PSHE/RSE curriculum that helps children to develop the tools to keep themselves safe;
An ethos that values the integral partnership between inquiry, positivity and life-long learning;
High expectations that are consistently employed;
Pioneering and rigorous teaching, underpinned by contemporary educational research;
