Windmill L.E.A.D. Academy was praised by Ofsted for being a ‘warm and welcoming school’ where pupils are ‘greeted by caring staff who know them well’.

During the ungraded inspection, Ofsted highlighted how the school, part of L.E.A.D. Academy Trust, has an ‘ambitious curriculum’ and that ‘pupils enjoy learning from each other’ and ‘work hard and achieve well.’

Inspectors confirmed that the school had maintained the high standards identified at the previous inspection where they received ‘Good’ across the board.

The report includes a wide range of highlights, notably:

  • The school sets high expectations for the pupils’ learning.
  • Pupils at the school get on well together and consistently demonstrate positive attitudes including learning about the different languages, cultures and religions that make up their diverse, multicultural community.
  • The school places a high priority on making sure that all pupils are well prepared for living in modern Britain, with opportunities to learn about modern technology, taking care of the planet and different careers.
  • The school identifies pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) quickly. These pupils are well supported to help them achieve well.
  • Reading is a priority in the school. Strategies to help pupils learn to read work well.
  • It is clear what the school wants pupils to learn in each subject. Teachers have strong subject knowledge.
  • In the early years, children quickly develop positive learning habits. The curriculum is well-considered to match children’s interests and provides them with the knowledge and skills they need to be prepared for the next stage.
  • The curriculum for personal, social and health education (PSHE) helps pupils learn how to lead healthy lives, for example by looking after their physical and mental health.
  • Staff are proud to work at the school. They value the way the school helps them to manage their workload.
  • School leaders, with strong backing from the Trust, have worked effectively to maintain, and improve, the school’s provision.

Windmill L.E.A.D. Academy is committed to ‘igniting minds and shaping futures’ to ensure pupils lead successful lives. Moving forward, the school is focusing on continuing to build upon this glowing report to ensure it delivers on its core mission.
